Farmers in the Agri-Climate Rural Environment Scheme (ACRES) Co-operation (CP) approach are being encouraged to prioritise planting actions ahead of an upcoming deadline.
ACRES CP participants with 2023 non-productive investment (NPI) Works Plans are being urged to take action before the closing date of March 31, 2026 for completing and claiming works.
After this date, unclaimed actions will no longer be eligible for payment.
ACRES Ireland, which covers Breifne, Munster/South Connacht and Leinster, has said that this time of year can offer "ideal planting conditions".
The planting actions under the agri-environmental scheme seek to improve biodiversity, build farm resilience, and bring direct on-farm benefits from shelter for livestock to stronger field boundaries.
Caroline Sullivan, chief operating officer with ACRES Ireland, urged any farmers with unfinished 2023 Works Plans to take review their actions now.
“This is a really positive time for farmers. The planting season is underway, conditions are reasonably good, and there’s still time to complete meaningful work that delivers visible results on the ground.
"But it’s important to remember that the window for 2023 works closes on March 31," she said.
Farmers are particularly encouraged to prioritise planting-related actions such as:
Farmers who are uncertain about timelines, specifications, or any practical details are advised to contact their ACRES adviser or local project officer as soon as possible.
“Acting early takes the pressure off and keeps the focus on quality. Now is the time to make the most of favourable conditions and ensure no opportunity is missed and payment claims are made in good time," Sullivan added.
