ABP 'assessing' impact of Storm Chandra on Slaney site

The ABP Food Group has confirmed its Slaney site has been "slightly" impacted by the fallout from Storm Chandra and it is currently assessing the situation.

Businesses, farmers and families were left battling extensive flooding and damage particularly in southeastern counties today (Tuesday, January 27) as a result of Storm Chandra.

Wexford County Council repeatedly warned of challenging conditions as strong winds and heavy rain led to the River Slaney bursting its banks.

Across the country it was a day of flooding, strong winds, disruption and power outages.

According to Met Éireann a Status Yellow wind warning remains in place for Ireland until 11:00pm tonight.

Meanwhile a Status Yellow rain warning is also in place for Carlow, Kilkenny, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Waterford until until 11:00pm tonight.

Met Éireann has said that rain will continue in Ulster early tonight before clearing northwards.

"Clear spells and showers following overnight, mainly over the western half of the country.

"High river levels and flooding will persist in some regions.

"Fresh to strong south to southwest winds will become southerly," it added.

Tomorrow (Wednesday, January 28) will bring bright or sunny spells with some showers, according to the the meteorological service these will be "most frequent in the south and west".

"There'll be a fair amount of dry weather in the east and north.

"However, high river levels and flooding will persist in some regions," Met Éireann added.

ESB

According to ESB Networks Storm Chandra has led to outages throughout the day across the country.

Approximately 2,500 homes, farms and businesses were without power at 5:15pm this evening - primarily in the east of the country.

According to ESB Networks its crews have been working throughout the day "to restore power to affected customers and will continue to do so into this evening and tonight".

"Supply will be restored to the vast majority of customers by tonight, however, there may be small pockets of customers without supply overnight.

"We acknowledge the disruption to family and commercial life this causes, and thank impacted customers for their patience as our crews work to safely restore power," ESB Networks added.

It has also warned that if anyone comes fallen wires or any part of the damaged electricity network they should not touch or approach it as this is extremely dangerous.
