23 people on Revenue tax defaulters list for 'misuse' of green diesel

Revenue has revealed that 23 people are on its latest list of tax defaulters for "misuse of marked mineral oil" (green diesel).

According to Revenue these 23 people were handed court fines totaling €56,450.

It also confirmed that a one-month custodial sentence was also imposed "suspended for 12 months on own bond of €100".

Revenue today (Tuesday, March 10) published its list of tax defaulters for the period October 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025.

The occupation of three of the 23 people who were on the list for the misuse of green diesel was stated to be "farmer".

Revenue's list of tax defaulters is published in two parts - part one includes "persons in whose case the court has determined a penalty relating to a settlement, or has imposed a fine, imprisonment or other penalty in respect of a tax or duty offence".

While part two relates to "persons in whose case Revenue has accepted a settlement offer instead of initiating court proceedings, or a settlement has been paid in full".

The latest list outlines that in relation to part one there were two cases in the three month period to December 31, 2025 with penalties totalling €136,610.

There were also 37 cases of excise offences for tobacco smuggling, illegal selling of tobacco and possession of untaxed tobacco for sale.

Court fines totalling €32,000 were imposed and eight sentences were also imposed.

There were also four cases of failure to hold a current liquor licence, in respect of which court fines of €3,180 were imposed.

Part 2

In Revenue's part two of its latest list of tax defaulters details of 25 cases were published today which resulted in tax settlements amounting to €7.9 million.

Included in Revenue's part two list were landlords, property developers, a baker and a former undertaker.

An electric scooter retailer, a driving instructor and a crypto currency investor were also named on the list of tax defaulters.

According to Revenue these published settlements "reflect only a portion of all Revenue compliance interventions".  

"In the 3-month period to December 31, 2025, a total of 18,689 Revenue compliance interventions were settled resulting in a total yield of €301,135,215," it added.
